(Reshot with a different heroine) 'Azhagana
Naalgal' was announced with Karthik and Simran. Simran had excitedly spoken
about how she was finally getting to play the lead with her favourite hero
Karthik. It would have been their first pairing and some scenes were shot too.
Then for some unavoidable reasons, like the industry strike, etc., the entire
shooting schedule went haywire. And when finally the shooting did start again,
Simran's dates were difficult to get. Now the heroine has been changed and it is
Rambha who is playing the lead role opposite Karthik. The script has been
slightly altered to suit her image, and the earlier portions shot with Simran
have been scrapped. Mumtaz gets to play a crucial role. Two songs were shot on
Rambha & Karthik in Ooty and some scenes were shot at the film city,
Hyderabad. Taking part in the shooting were Karthik, Mumtaz, Rajiv, Manivannan,
and Delhi Ganesh. Rajasekhar
and Somasundaram are close friends. They decide to strengthen their friendship
further by getting Rajasekhar's younger son Chandru married to Rekha,
Somasundaram’s daughter. While Somasundaram wonders if Chandru would agree to
the marriage, Gunasekhar, Rajasekhar's elder son takes it on himself to convince
his brother. Chandru is at first reluctant, since he had just started his new
business. But heeding to his brother's coaxing, finally agrees. An overjoyed
Gunasekhar tells the good news to his father and Somasundaram. Rekha, who
overhears the whole thing, is overwhelmed with joy and fantasises about Chandru
in a 'dream' song. Directing
the artistes was Sunder C., while M. Prasad canned the shots. Playing the two
friends Somasundaram and Rajasekhar were Delhi Ganesh and Manivannan
respectively. Karthik played Chandru and elder brother Gunasekhar was played by
Rajiv. Mumtaz played Rekha. The supporting cast consists of Goundamani,
Senthil, Sabita Anand, Dalapathy Dinesh, Ponnambalam, and Anu Mohan. Pandiarajan
plays an important character in the film. The film is produced by Selvan, who
has been an art director for the past 18 years, and the banner is called Gautami
Arts. Deva scores the music and G.K. designs the sets, while Sai Suresh edits
the film. Says the director about his film, "A normal
human being has a life span of about 2,40,000 days. Out of these he spends just
a few days on matters of the heart. Those few days he spends on 'love' would be
his 'Azhagana Naalgal'.
