Military

(Satyaraj - Rambha)

After their fairly successfully teaming in 'Kungumapottu Gounder', the Satyaraj-Rambha pair comes together again in a film titled 'Military' a remake of the Malayalam film 'Hitler', where Mammootty played the lead. The cast also has Livingston who plays Rambha's brother, and Vijayalakshmi who plays one of Satyaraj's five sisters, and Livingston's romantic pair in the film. Ramesh Khanna, Vinu Chakravarthy, Ponnambalam, Santhana Bharathy, Lavanya, Vyapuri, Damu, Mayilsami, M.S. Bhasker, Indu, Anju, K.R. Vatsala and S.N. Lakshmi form the supporting cast.

G. Saisuresh directs 'Military', with cinematography by Shanker. Deva composes the tunes. Produced by S. Siddhique for his banner Cine Times, shooting for the film is going on at a fast pace. A scene was shot on Satyaraj, Rambha and some junior artistes with the public-road backdrop. Madhavan, driving by on his motorcycle, sees some girls roughing up a youth. He stops and asks the girls the reason for their behaviour. The girls reply that the youth was only getting just treatment, because he had loved one of their friends for the past four years, and now when she had asked him to make a commitment and marry her, he had plainly refused. Madhavan tells them that he would play arbiter and mediate in the matter. As Madhavan goes to talk to the youth, Vasanthi passing by learns of the matter. She chides the girls on taking help from Madhavan on such a sensitive matter. "This man has been in love with me since the past five years. But each time I start the topic of our marriage, he does the disappearing act. How can you let such a man play the mediater?" Madhavan too hears this comment and as he furiously approaches Vasanthi she takes to her heels. Satyaraj and Rambha played Madhavan and Vasanthi respectively.

Yet another scene was shot on Manivannan and Rambha, where Manivannan playing Satyaraj's father, kidnaps Rambha. Madhavan's sister Sita (Vijayalakshmi) elopes with Balasubramani (Livingston), the brother of Vasanthi. Madhavan's father, lorry driver Gokulakrishna (Manivannan), upset at this humiliation to the family, vows revenge. His assistant and cleaner Bhasker (S. Bhasker) suggests, that the best revenge would be to kidnap Subramani's sister Vasanthi, and forcefully marry her to Madhavan. Listening to his advice, Gokula Krishna kidnaps Vasanthi, and gets her to his house. But Vasanthi, when she learns who her kidnappers are, is overjoyed rather than frightened, for she had developed a soft corner for Madhavan.

With films like 'Ennamma Kannu' and 'Kungumapottu Gounder' doing quite well at the box office, Satyaraj's stars are on the rise. This story about a brother's over-protective attitude towards his sisters, at times even alienating them, and the final reconciliation has humour and sentiment weaved into the screenplay and should be one more addition to his success stories.
