Bala had turned his maiden film 'Sedhu' into a triumphant movie and had won a national award too in appreciation of his meritorious creative talent. The whole of Tamil film industry found itself wonder-struck at the sterling achievement of the first timer. 'Nandha' is his next venture. And it is unique and different in its own way. The lyrical lines, 'Nallavaraavathum Theeyavaraavathum Annai Valarppinile'(The bringing up of the mother makes the offspring either good or bad), obviously, have given some food for Bala's thoughts. But he has given some deliberate twist to the lyricist's observation. The story of 'Nandha' took shape thus in the mind of the director. An young man is deprived of the loving protection of his mother. Resultantly, many dark incidents dot in his life-path. Yet there is a bright side also to his life. Surya lives like a rough and tough youth as he is not lucky enough to experience maternal love. As there always would be light at the end of the tunnel love dawns in his life. Tender feelings flower in his heart. Laila is the lady-love. The new-found love redeems him from the clutches of a dark, forlorn and god-forsaken life. The climax is charged with high emotion. At first, Bala had chosen Ajith to do the role now played by Surya. But after much contemplation and many deliberations, the mantle has fallen on the shoulders of Surya. And Surya has proved his mettle in a grandiose fashion. In the Shaven headed get up, he has lived as an entirely different person in 'Nandha'. It is said that Rajkiran would be adding new feathers to his cap through his impressive performance in this film. It is another important film for him after 'Paandavar Bhoomi. We would be seeing a Laila without laughter in the film. She has donned the character of a Srilankan Tamil girl in the movie. Yuvan Shankar Raja is in the charge of the movie's music. There are six songs in the movie, in which two have been sung by Ilayaraja. It is told that the redoubtable father has given his valuable suggestions to his illustrious son with regard to background music. Everybody expects 'Nandha' to give a stiff opposition to 'Aalavandhan', the mega film of a mega star as both the films would be hitting the big screen on the festival day, Deepavali. |
