An Exclusive Interview With Actress Abhirami

Actress Abhirami gave an exclusive interview to 'Dinakaran' Tamil Daily Newspaper reporter at the sets of the developing film, "Charlee Chaplin", which is being directed by Shakthi Chidambaram. The details:

Question: What's the reason behind your customary act of suddenly getting hold of the mike at functions you partipate in and start singing songs?

Answer: I had been learning vocal singing methodically right from my young age! So, it's enough for me if I hear, even once, the songs from whatever may be the film and I could easily sing the same. Nowadays, in the functions I participate, they ask me to sing atleast one song. So, instantly, I sing my favourite song.

Question: Why don't you do sing for films?

Answer: I too wish to sing for films. But good opportunity should arise also....First of all, I could sing only such type of song that suits my voice level. Director Shakthi Chidambaram, who happened to hear me singing at a few functions, came to enjoy my voice and thus decided, so I was told, to make me sing in my own voice for the film "Charlee Chaplin". I, who act in films delivering my dialogue in my own voice, also have the wish to sing for films. I'm always ready to sing for films, if only offers come my way.

Question: Why aren't you acting in considerable number films in Tamil?

Answer: After "Vaanavil", I acted in "Middle Class Madhavan", "Thosth" and "Samudhram". Presently I'm acting in "Charlee Chaplin".  In Telugu, I'm doing two films. In Tamil negotiations are going on. After "Samudhram", though  new film offers came, I couldn't accept some of them since no fitting character roles were available!

I prefer to commit in only if there's importance for the character role of the heroine. Apart from these, I won't be a trouble-maker asking for more salary and all!

Question: Do you consider those heroines getting imported into Tamil from Malayalam field as your competitors?

Answer: I never consider anyone as my competitor. I accept those offers that come my way, on their own. Only those chances meant for me as per my fate would come to me!

No one can walk away carrying another heroine's opportunities! I have got that unshakable belief. All on a sudden, there appeared a news item in a magazine to the effect that I picked up quarrel with Divya Unni. When I knew about it through somebody, I started laughing like anything. In fact, Divya Unni and myself are close friends. When we meet, we won't talk about cinema. Rather we talk about ourselves.

Question: Don't you like to present yourself glamorously (on screen), since you prefer to act in family oriented subjects?

Answer: Only those artistes doing family-oriented roles could earn a stable and prospectful long career in cinema. But those, who indulge in extreme type of glamour acting could survive in the field only for a limited period of time. As far as I'm concerned, it's my wish that nobody should ever feel awkward while seeing my films.

I can portray myself on screen in an extraordinarily glamorous way today as I'm presently endowed with youthfulness and beauty. But, in future, when either my husband or children happen to see the films acted by me, shouldn't get upset on account of my (glamorous) performance. Likewise, I'm very particular that the theatre-going families also neither should feel irritated nor get impatient because of my style of acting.

                      Abhirami answered thus.
